1.Radiographsofthepelvisandhipshouldbethefirsttestorderedfortheevaluationofpatientswithchronichippain.2.MRIhipwithoutIVcontrastorUShipisappropriateinpatientswithchronichippainwhenradiographsarenegative,equivocal,ornondiagnosticandthereissuspicionforanextraarticularnoninfectioussofttissueabnormalitysuchastendonitis.3.MRIhipwithoutIVcontrast,MRarthrography,orCTarthrographyisappropriateinpatientswithchronichippainwhenradiographsarenegative,equivocal,ornondiagnosticandthereisasuspicionforimpingement.4.MRarthrographyorCTarthrographyisappropriateinpatientswithchronichippainwhenradiographsarenegative,equivocal,ornondiagnosticandalabraltearissuspected.5.MRIhipwithoutIVcontrast,MRarthrography,orCTarthrographyisappropriateafterradiographsinpatientswithchronichippaintoevaluatearticularcartilage.

6.MRIhipwithorwithoutIVcontrastorhipaspirationisappropriateafterpositiveradiographsinpatientswithchronichippainwithsuspectedarthritiswheninfectionisaconsideration.7.MRIhipwithoutIVcontrastisappropriateinpatientswithchronichippainwhenradiographsaresuggestiveofpigmentedvillonodularsynovitisorosteochondromatosis.8.MRIhipwithoutIVcontrastimage–guidedanestheticwithorwithoutcorticosteroidisappropriatetoexcludethehipasthesourceofpaininpatientswithchronichippainandlowback,pelvic,orkneepathologywithnegativeorequivocalradiographsorradiographsshowingmildosteoarthritis.CThipwithoutcontrastisthepreferredmodalityfor
